NOIDA: Swift action by police on Saturday prevented a woman from ending her life after she posted a distressing video on social media.Cops took cognisance of a video that started circulating on social media around 8 am showing the woman expressing extreme distress. In the clip, she alleged that her husband and some others had ruined her life, leaving her with no desire to live. In the video, she declared her intent to die by suicide and asked viewers not to hold anyone responsible for her decision. As the video caught the attention of police, they used the IP address linked to the clip to trace the woman to her flat in Sector 28.A team from Sector 20 police station reached her home by 8.20 am and found her attempting to harm herself. Police intervened immediately, rescuing her and rushing her to a nearby hospital. Doctors confirmed she was out of danger, though her mental state remains fragile.A senior police officer said, “The woman is in her mid-30s and works at a leading media outlet. She had married in 2020 but has been living separately for several months, which seems to have caused her distress.”Authorities are now providing counselling and psychological support to help her recover. In 2022, UP Police had partnered with Meta to receive alerts on suicide-related posts on Facebook and Instagram. On Aug 31 this year, Bareilly police managed to save a 20-year-old BA first-year student from a suicide attempt when Meta sent an email alert to the state police’s social media centre about an Instagram post by her showing a packet of pesticide, captioning the post along with a distress message. The police team had reached the student’s residence in the CB Ganj police station area in 16 minutes.
