BAREILLY: Two unidentified bike-borne men fired around seven rounds at Bollywood actress Disha Patani‘s house in Civil Lines area of UP’s Bareilly on Friday, said police. Later in the day, the Lawrence Bishnoi associated gang, Goldy Brar group, claimed responsibility for the shooting.The attack is suspectedly linked to the recent controversy of Disha’s sister Khushboo Patani (34), a retired major of the Indian Army, and currently a certified wellness coach. She had allegedly cursed the famous katha vachak Aniruddh Acharya, alleging that he had issued “misogynist remarks” against women.Khushboo had put the video on her Instagram stories saying: “If he would have been in front of me, I would have taught him a lesson.”Goldy Brar group claims responsibility for shooting incident on social mediaHowever, her remarks were misattributed to Premanand Ji Maharaj, a spiritual figure followed by celebrities. Khushboo’s remarks had attracted a lot of criticism. Subsequently in August, she warned of legal action if the criticism did not stop and clarified that her remarks weren’t for Premanand Ji.“Around 3:30 am on Friday, two bike-borne men fired multiple shots at their house. The family approached the police in the afternoon following which we deployed five special teams, including Special Operations Group (SOG), to investigate the shooting incident,” SSP Anurag Arya told TOI.Disha Patani’s family members, including elder sister Khushboo, brother Suryansh and parents Jagdish Singh Patani and Padma Patani, live in Civil Lines house. “Her father, Jagdish Singh Patani, a retired circle officer, filed a complaint. An FIR has been lodged at Kotwali police station,” added Arya.Later in the day, Goldy Brar group claimed responsibility for the shooting incident. In a Facebook post, a gang member, Veerendra Charan, threatened Patani’s family. “I am Veerendra Charan, Mahendra Saran (Delana). Brothers, today, the firing that took place at the house of Disha Patani (Bollywood actress) has been done by us. She had insulted our revered saints (Premanand Ji Maharaj and Aniruddh Acharya Ji Maharaj) and tried to belittle our Sanatan Dharma,” the post read.“The insult to our deities will not be tolerated. This was just a trailer. If she or anyone else shows disrespect towards our religion again, not a single person in their house will be left alive. This message is not just for her, but for all the film industry artists and those associated with them,” the message read.“If anyone commits such an act of disrespect towards our religion and saints in the future, be prepared to face the consequences. We are ready to go to any extent to protect our religion. We will never back down. Protecting our religion and society is our primary duty,” it added.Sachin Yadav, neighbour and a hotel owner, told TOI, “My staff heard the firing shot and alarmed me. When I stepped out, no one was there. Soon, other neighbours came out after a pin drop silence.”When TOI queried about how many shots were fired, he replied: “Counting fire was impossible. They fired continuously and fled.”
