NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday cancelled the bail granted to Kannada actor Darshan in the Renukaswamy murder case.The bench was hearing a plea filed by the state government against the Karnataka High Court’s December 13, 2024, order granting bail to Darshan and the co-accused.Darshan was among 17 persons arrested for allegedly abducting, torturing, and murdering his 33-year-old fan, S. Renukaswamy, who had allegedly sent obscene messages to Darshan’s girlfriend, actress Pavithra Gowda.According to police, the victim was held in a shed in Bengaluru for three days in June 2024, tortured, and his body was later recovered from a drain.During the hearings, special public prosecutor P. Prasanna Kumar told the court that two photographs showed the deceased pleading guilty and begging for mercy. He further stated that, according to witness statements, Dhanraj, Nandish, and Pavan — all of whom worked at Darshan’s house — assaulted Renukaswamy for about 10 minutes, with Dhanraj even giving him an electric shock using a machine.Prasanna Kumar informed the court that the deceased had suffered 39 external injuries and a rib fracture.The Supreme Court had earlier, on January 24, issued notices to Darshan, Pavithra Gowda, and others in the case on the state government’s plea.According to the autopsy report, Renukaswamy also sustained a deep, bleeding head injury, a torn ear, and electric shocks, along with a broken chest bone and damage to his testicles, which led to his death.
