
An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 on the Richter Scale jolted Pakistan on Monday (May 12, 2025), at 13:26 p.m. (IST), a statement by the National Center for Seismology (NCS) said.
The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km.
The National Center for Seismology said the epicentre was 747 km away from the southwest of Islamabad, Pakistan and 603 km from Bikaner, Rajasthan, India.
An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 on the Richter Scale jolted Tibet on Monday (May 11, 2025), a statement by the National Center for Seismology (NCS) said.
As per the NCS, the earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km, making it susceptible to aftershocks.
Shallow earthquakes like these are more dangerous than deeper ones due to their greater energy release closer to the Earth’s surface. This causes stronger ground shaking and increased damage to structures and casualties, compared to deeper earthquakes, which lose energy as they travel to the surface
