Dumka: A 50-year-old woman was beheaded while her husband suffered injuries after a 25-year-old attacked them with a sword, following a heated altercation over drain water flowing out on the road.The incident occurred at Kewat Para Mohalla in Dumka district on Wednesday evening, police said on Thursday. The accused, identified as Fulchand Sah alias Chhotu, is the son of a policeman.The deceased was identified as Vimla Devi. According to family members, she objected to her neighbour’s move to let filthy water from the drain of his house flow onto the road. Fulchand Sah, alias Chhotu (25), went inside his home and came out with the sword following an altercation.Nandkishore Prasad, the officer-in-charge of the Town police station, said the accused has been arrested. “We have also seized the blood-stained sword. The body and the severed head have been recovered and sent for postmortem,” he said.The husband of the deceased, Manoj Kumar Singh, is a government teacher, and he sustained injuries on his left hand while attempting to rescue his wife. He is undergoing treatment at the Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital.Juhi Kumari, the daughter of the deceased, told reporters that the accused attacked her mother in the neck with a sword from behind, severing the head. “Fulchand was gone before anyone could understand anything. He then attacked my father, who attempted to rescue my mother. My father returned from the market when the accused was quarrelling with my mother,” she said. Accused Fulchand’s father is an ASI and is currently posted in Hazaribag district, while his family members reside in the Kewat Para Mohalla of Dumka.Quoting locals, Prasad said both families used to quarrel over the issue of drain water and filth on the road, which took a violent turn on Wednesday.
