NEW DELHI: In a bizarre incident, a brand new, gleaming Mahindra Thar, worth over Rs 15 lakh, plunged from the first floor of a showroom in east Delhi’s Nirman Vihar after its owner, eager to perform a ritual on the auspicious occasion, accidentally drove it through the glass wall, said police. The ritual, which involved driving the car over a lemon for good luck, took an unexpected turn when the 29-year-old woman allegedly stepped on the accelerator and ended up crushing not just the lemon, but the balcony railing as well.Miraculously, the woman walked away with minor injuries. The Thar, however, didn’t fare so well. The car, fresh off the showroom floor, fell 15 feet, suffering more than just a few bumper bruises.The incident took place around 5pm on Monday. Police were alerted at 6.08pm about the injured woman by the hospital she was taken to.During the investigation, police found that the woman and her husband had recently bought the SUV from the showroom in Nirman Vihar. At the time of the incident, the couple and an employee of the showroom were inside the vehicle on the first floor of the building. No one was grievously injured, police said.In a video that was widely shared on social media, people can be seen gathered around the site, with the car lying upside down amid shattered glass. The glass wall of the building’s first floor is seen shattered as well, leaving behind a gaping hole.Cops said they are investigating the incident. As of now, it is unclear if the woman will be booked. Police said they have not received any complaint so far.
