The Los Angeles Lakers brought in Luka Doncic earlier this year from the Dallas Mavericks in a deal that shocked the whole league. Since then, they have cultivated a good link between the Slovenian and the rest of the team, including LeBron James, and recently signed a 3-year, $165 million extension. And now, they are looking to increase the depth of their bench, especially with Luka firmly in the picture, and sign a two-way wing like Andrew Wiggins from the Miami Heat.

Andrew Wiggins piques interest of Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers have a good squad right now. LeBron James will likely return for at least one more season. They have signed a 3-year extension with Luka Doncic and have also managed to retain players like Rui Hachimura and Austin Reaves. And now, they are looking interested in a player that can work both offensively as well as defensively – like Andrew Wiggins. According to NBA correspondent Marc Stein of The Stein Line:“The sort of player who is likely to interest the Lakers? My read (if Miami were to make him available): Andrew Wiggins. Wiggins, 30, will earn $28.2 million this season and holds a $30.2 million player option for 2026-27. I wouldn’t have classified him as a potential purple-and-gold target before Dončić’s long-term future was secured, but things are different now… So my sense is that the Lakers would have interest if the Heat, in the coming weeks or months, decide to prioritize financial flexibility and look to reduce payroll.Wiggins joined the Heat in February as part of the multi-team trade that saw Jimmy Butler leave them for the Golden State Warriors. While the Heat or Wiggins have not yet expressed any interest in parting ways, if a good deal comes their way, things could change just as quickly.

Andrew Wiggins could team up with Luka Doncic and LeBron James for a championship season

LeBron James is staying with the Los Angeles Lakers for the 2025-26 season for his 23rd run in the NBA, having picked up his player option for the upcoming year. The team has also secured an extension with Luka Doncic for the next three years, where he is set to stay. So, if they can bring in another two-way wing player like Andrew Wiggins, their squad’s versatility in the league will be almost unmatched. The Lakers had a mediocre season during the last run, even though the team-up between James and Doncic has been appreciated a lot. Players like Austin Reaves also made their mark with some stunning performances, and if they can keep up, the team could lift yet another championship trophy, if they can all bring in their A-game. And given this will most likely be James’ last season in the NBA, he would be even more hyped to add one more trophy to the shelf before leaving. Also Read: LeBron James shares 3-word birthday wish for his Cleveland Cavaliers teammate Kevin Love
